I'm Curious to know how farmers utilize cheap local resources for building large scale chicken trailers and water trailers for raising 400+ chickens but also help in keeping chickens alive through bad and lengthy weather conditions. From my knowledge one of the local pasture raised eggs farmers flattened a large foundation on a hill behind his house and built a barn. He mentioned that it would help preserve chickens through the winter time. I couldn't help but wonder if he could have made a cheaper alternative; however, western Oregon has been known to get over 20 days of straight rain and months of cold weather below 40 degrees. I believe Kookoolan Farms by Carlton, Or. stops there poultry operation through the winter season for that purpose.
